Meghan Markle’s Fashion Choices Show A Major Change From Her Early Royal Days

From actress, to royal, to star of a controversial new docuseries, Meghan Markle has been through a lot of change over the past few years. And this evolution shows in her style. In her acting days, Meghan usually cut a casual figure in ripped jeans and shirts. But everything had to change when she started attending royal engagements alongside Prince Harry. Naturally, she began sporting more demure outfits and toned-down colors. Now no longer a working royal, Meghan is free to wear whatever she wants. And you’ll be surprised by some of her recent, bolder — and distinctly un-royal looks.

The Invictus Games, 2022

In a pretty wild departure from her formal royal-appropriate attire, Meghan is seen here in a casual jeans-and-jacket combo. She’s all smiles as she attends a driving challenge in the build-up to the Invictus Games in the Netherlands. Meghan and Harry even got involved, riding miniature Land Rovers with some kids at the event.

The Netherlands, 2022

Pictured here at an athletics event during the Invictus Games, Harry and Meghan look relaxed and happy. She’s sporting some straight-leg jeans and a cool, cream jacket. Harry also looks a far cry from his active royal days, wearing casual pants and a zip-up sweatshirt. No one would’ve expected to see them looking this dressed down at a public event a couple of years ago.

Harlem, 2021

Chic red pantsuit anyone? Looking at this photo, Meghan looks like a regular celebrity spotted out and about in New York City. She’s effortlessly cool in a matching loose-fitting jacket and pants. It’s a real evolution from the demure long skirts and hats we were used to seeing her in a few years ago. Her ensemble is all from the brand Loro Piana, and the cashmere coat alone was worth $5,840.

Oprah interview, 2021

Once Meghan left the royal family, she was free to wear whatever she liked again. But what had she learned? Well, some think she definitely discovered the art of sending coded messages via clothes. When she gave her tell-all interview to Oprah she wore a dress with a lotus motif — the lotus flower signifying rebirth.
